Dana Terrace was a storyboard artist and animator[1] for Gravity Falls.

Biography[]

Terrace graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York during the spring of 2013, and subsequently moved to Los Angeles after getting hired as a storyboard revisionist for Gravity Falls.[2] As of the episode "Not What He Seems," Terrace had been working as a storyboard artist.[3] After this episode, she now no longer worked on the series, though there are additional episodes where she worked as a storyboard artist.

After finishing work on Gravity Falls, Terrace became a director on the first season of DuckTales. She created and executive produced her own series entitled The Owl House for Disney.

After the production of The Owl House ended, Terrace left Disney after years of collaboration.[4]

Personal life[]

Terrace came out as bisexual in 2017,[5][6] and drew on her experiences to create The Owl House and the bisexual character Luz Noceda. Terrace has mentioned multiple times that she draws inspiration for Luz Noceda from herself.

As of 2015 she was dating Alex Hirsch, the creator of Gravity Falls.[7] However, in April 2022, Dana hinted in a Tumblr drawing that they broke up.[8] Hirsch and Terrace have conducted multiple charity live streams together, in which they draw cartoons to raise money for various organizations including Planned Parenthood,[9][10] The American Civil Liberties Union,[11][12][13] The Southern Poverty Law Center,[13] The Natural Resources Defense Council (with Ninja Sex Party and Arin Hanson),[14][15][16] Direct Relief (with Justin Roiland and Ethan Klein),[17][18][19][20] The Trevor Project (with Rebecca Sugar and Ian Jones-Quartey),[21][22] and RAICES (with Daron Nefcy and Eden Sher).[23][24][25] Altogether, these events raised over $270,000 as of 2018.[13]

Terrace is a member of the Democratic Party, and is a supporter of abortion rights,[26] same-sex marriage, immigration, and healthcare for transgender Americans. She is known to be vocal about her political views on social media, and has often condemned policies passed by Republican politicians.[27]

In 2018, Terrace signed a petition supporting pay equity in the animation industry.[28] In 2022, she joined other animators at Disney who criticized Bob Chapek's refusal to make a comment on HB 1557, which is often referred to as the "Don't Say Gay" bill.[29] She also argued that Chapek's letter to employees was "flowery and compassionate words to shut you up."[30]
