Robertryan Cory was a character designer for Gravity Falls.

Early life

Originally from Austin, TX, Cory moved around a lot as a child due to having two musician parents. In middle school he became interested in animation, and he first started working at the age of fifteen after he "crashed a cartoonist party... [with his] sketchbook full of dirty drawings."[1]

Several of the cartoonists suggested he intern at a local animation studio, and he did so for a month before moving up. Cory originally did animation work directed towards a more adult audience, but he eventually changed his direction and began working on more kid-oriented shows.

Other work

Cory has worked on various other programs. He worked as a layout artist for Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon." He also worked as a character designer for The X's, The Mighty B!, The Ricky Gervais Show, Secret Mountain Fort Awesome, and in he also worked as a storyboard revisionist for Adventure Time.

Cory is well known for his work as a prop and character designer on SpongeBob Squarepants from 2005-2010. He later returned to work as a character designer for the 2015 film, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.

Cory has been nominated for several awards in the past, and in 2012 won a Creative Arts Emmy Award for "Outstanding Individual in Animation" at the 64th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards for his work on the Secret Mountain Fort Awesome episode "Nightmare Sauce."[2]

He is currently working as a character designer for Gravity Falls.
