Gravity Falls Wiki

Hello all! This is a blog I actually intend on keeping updated, generally to coincide with the release of a new episode, trailer, or any other piece of news worth covering. The intention is to gather relevant and informational news released on the progression of Season 2, episode clues, or other little goodies from our Gravity Falls overlords we might have overlooked.

Most of this content comes from this lovely interview conducted over at the A.V. Club with Hirsch, and a few other bits and pieces from a few Twitter accounts. Hopefully sources can get more organized as I make more of these posts.

WARNING. This post will contain massive spoilers of major plot points in the Gravity Falls mythos. I encourage you to avoid reading this post if you have not enjoyed the entirety of the show. You have been warned.

1. Stanley Pines was an endgame from the very beginning. The reveal of the Author's identity to be the twin brother of Stan Pines was far from shocking for half the fans, and according to Alex Hirsch, this was the plan all along. Numerous allusions were made to this secret since the start of the series, including:

  • The wrong license plate on Stan's car (S1e2, "The Legend of the Gobblewonker")
  • Stan's extreme grief over his wax replica (S1e3, "Headhunters")
  • The second pair of glasses in a hidden room of the Mystery Shack (S1e16, "Carpet Diem")
  • A swingset from Stan's mindscape, with one swing broken (S1e19, "Dreamscaperers")

While this may seem like a rehash of Stanley Pines evidence, this was all confirmed to be intentional, which makes the Stanley conspirators not as crazy as some of us thought they were.

2. The mystery is far from over.

This one goes without saying, but it's dedicated to all the people thinking this was the show's series finale. We've been assured the reveal of the Author's identity will open an entire new can of worms for the Pines family. A few questions that we can expect to be answered within the next half of Season 2 include who Stan's brother really is, what McGucket is so paranoid of, and what exactly Bill Cipher is after. Stay tuned!

3. Dipper's feelings will be explored.

While the obvious bond between Stan and Mabel feels all the more present since the premiere of NWHS, the question as to how Dipper feels about his uncle, and as a whole his family, are said to be explored in future episodes. Many have theorized the breaking of the glass picture of the siblings following the portal's activation could symbolize how deep a rift they have suffered since the events of this episode, and honestly, it seems likely.

4. Everything is different now.

I quote the Pines twins from S1e9, "The Time Traveler's Pig," that yes, everything after Monday the 9th will be different. Hirsch has explained that NWHS was a pivotal change in not only the show's plot, but the core of the show itself; if someone were to watch any episode to follow it, none of it would make any sense at all.

5. Season 3 is still on the table.

I can back this one up. According to Sabrina Cutogno, a storyboard artist for the show, Season 3 has yet to be approved by Disney. Keep in mind that this in no way confirms there will indeed by a third season, it simply means that Disney is still contemplating whether it will even give Gravity Falls an opportunity for one.

6. There will be 22 episodes in Season 2.

Another great fact we can sift from Twitter is the confirmation for a 22 episode count this season, meaning 2 bonus episodes compared to Season 1. Hirsch stated in an interview some time ago that Season 2 would contain at least 21.

7. We won't see Gravity Falls again until Summer 2015.

Are you done crying? According to Hirsch, the Disney execs and their infinite wisdom have stated that episode 12 will be broadcasted around summer 2015 at the very latest. Fortunately, the GF team seems very prepared for this hiatus, as they mentioned they intentionally created two different arcs and plot points that define the season into two different chapters. The only thing we have been promised is our faces being melted off.

That's all for now, hopefully I'll manage to actually make a habit of doing this. Until then, bury your gold and mentally prepare yourselves for Summer 2015.
