"Hi, the name's Latke. Welcome to Gravity Falls. And by this point, you might be wondering why I'm named after a fried potato dessert. Well, pull up a chair and I'll explain as much as I can..."
—Latke's opening monologue

Remy Ace Jr. "Latke" Katsopolis is a young boy (13-14 years old) born and raised in Gravity Falls. He lives with his parents who promote their popular breakfast cereal Sugarfrosted UFOats™.

History

Early Life

Latke earned his nickname "Latke" due to an incident during his school’s potluck in the fifth grade that involved potato pancakes. The details of the matter are his darkest secret and he doesn't like to talk about it.

Growing up in Gravity Falls

Latke gave his parents, Ace and Lolo, the idea of putting prizes at the bottom of their cereal boxes so they put him in charge of that job. Latke uses this opportunity as an excuse to go searching for strange and wondrous curios in the forest. Latke sometimes quotes the cereal's slogan - "A meteorite in every bite"

Mystery Shack employment

Latke first came to the Mystery Shack to get some answers out of Mr. Mystery since he was one of the only few residents in town that knew of Stan's con-artist exploits. Fearing that he might get busted, Stan tried to deny all of Latke's suspicions but soon gave in and bribed the boy not to tell anyone by giving him a job at the shack.

Personality

Latke is a daring, fun-loving, confident, creative and very mischievous boy. He maintains an optimistic view on life even though he's not always the luckiest person. Latke is smart, but that doesn't mean he's wise. Being young; he can be clumsy, impulsive, let his emotions get the best of him, and push people's buttons (even unintentionally).

Despite this, Latke has shown to have a high IQ. He is good at math and is artistically inclined. On a good day of his, Latke can be slick, and skilled at getting the answers and outcomes he wants - even to the point of playing dumb. Latke also exhibits a level of tactical genius, being able to formulate solutions in the stickiest of situations.

Latke doesn't scare easy, which is why he finds Halloween - the date of his birth, somewhat boring. This fearlessness usually allows him to take dangerous situations lightly, unless his friends and family are at stake. He hates it when people bully or hurt others, especially those closest to him.

With his heart of gold and nerves of steel, Latke is never down for the count against the unknown mysteries that Gravity Falls has in store.

Appearance

Latke sports shaggy black hair, large brown eyes, and Caucasian skin. He wears a beige sweater with a red collar and cuffs, black pants with a green belt, and brown sneakers with white undersides. He is of average height for his age with a slight build. There is a pin resembling the head of a black cat on his sweater, indicating Latke's bad luck, though he unwittingly believes it to be a "good-luck charm".

Hangout

File:S1e14 water tower.jpg

The water tower is Latke's headquarters.

The Gravity Falls water tower is really Latke's hangout. Though the tower looks normal on the outside, there is a hidden door that leads to the inside which looks like a big futuristic rec room/observatory. Not only does it contain beanbag chairs, a refrigerator, and a flat-screen TV; but there is also a large computer with a triangular monitor and trapezoidal keyboard along with a built-in surveillance system of the town so Latke can keep track of things he's discovered in Gravity Falls.

The entire roof of the water tower is able to open up like a hatch, in response to Latke's ejecting-chair function.
